My Flooger's Grandma died last weekend, aged 20. The Boofer (at age 15) is now a patriarch of his family, having lost his older brother, mother, uncle and grandma. However, we think he has avoided all the conditions which caused early death in his other relatives. He is still spry, as was his Grandma to the very last, as this picture taken on her 20th birthday shows:

Grandma still had work to do )

Goodbye, Grandma.

It appears that my immune system wasn't just pling!ing on stress, as I awoke with definite influenza. So today, I sag.

The kittens don't like Hills m/d and are therefore extra grouchy about the reduced rations. They don't realise that working off their frustrations by energetically playing Chase! is perfectly in line with The Evil Vet's Plan [FX: bwh-ha-ha]. A shame that I just heard someone hiss :-(

My immune system is banging away at something - the lymph nodes at my throat feel almost 'mumpy', and those under my arms, like buboes :-( The doctor thinks it's the stress (I also have an autoimmune condition). So I'm mostly confined to barracks today (and by the heavy rain).

Upsides: It's spring!; I have a chickpea cooking project (the search for perfect hummous continues, and I need outstanding chana daal recipes?); I have lots of online volunteer noodling to do; I have Skype (do you?)'; I have kittens; and I've had no more emergency phone-calls from the hospital (yet).

My doctor tells me that my bronchitis is cleared - Yay! Cycling! Aikido! - but he doesn't want me back in school until my other problems are treated. My PGCE is now in jeopardy, unless I can defer my final teaching practice until September :-S

I went out afterward, to clear my head: met up with some Friends of the Earth friends to chat to people in Niceville about tax and climate change. The sun was beautiful, and the staged displays of snowy white crocuses, and pansies of custard yellow and blackberry purple were still lovely.

Later, I submitted the paperwork to register my enduring power of attorney with my mother's bank :-( IMHO everyone should grant someone enduring power of attorney... must sort that out for G, D and I.

So, my plan for the summer is to combine treatment with voluntary work (I already have three invitations!), or even a paid part-time position of some kind. I'm going to see if the job centre has anything suitable - I shall be bold, targetted, and networking :-)

I believe that the nearest human deaths to Europe so far have been the children in Turkey?

I've just seen a report that would suggests a good reason why we should all be keeping our cats under control, and not letting them roam and catch birds.

Apparently, the first mammal in Europe to die of bird flu is a domestic cat. "Ooo... raw bird... not flying away quickly enough... my favourite! *chomp*" :-(((

Mater's meeting was gruelling, but I think we helped her make a good decision. I think her convalescence will move forward now.

School was OK, although everyone's ill. I made a reasonable start.

The kitties are batting aat one another, seeming frustrated. Mr P will have to sleep alone again, but is currently purring on my lap.

And so, to snoo.

Urgent meeting about significant changes to Mater's treatment plan, 10 am.

Into school for start of planning week, delayed until pm.

Feeling a little less awful. Good to have so many people who are serious about protecting me from myself...

Wish me luck!

This has been a very mixed week, personally, and politically.

Tony Blair seems to have found 'his Poll Tax' with the ID card/database issue. Lobby a Lord )

[livejournal.com profile] fjm is courageously exploring the implications of UK legislation concerning the so-called 'glorification of terrorism'.

The world seems no nearer to real freedom of speech.

Hospitals and ill health seem to surround me.

But G, D & I, and B&P, have managed to have some good times...

Very nice evening last night with N (whose spouse S is away for 4 weeks): laughed ourselves silly watching the Depp Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I was particularly taken with the one/hundreds Oompa-Loompa, and (of course), the Great Glass Elevator. We also ate Kaoka Dark Orange chocolate (Bioequitable - that's Fair Trade Organic - and vegan, and tastier than Maya Gold ... eat your heart out, Bournville and Cadbury!).

At about 03:00, I awoke with a cat curled up asleep against my chest, as usual ... except it was the wrong cat! I'd been woken by the sound of Boofy retreating behind the blinds to watch TV in disgust. Luckily, Pointy got up when I had to go "to the little officer's room". But, me being me and being on holiday, I still spent the next hour trying to persuade Boofy to settle down between our torsos again, and Pointy to stop making territorial attacks but to accept ankles instead.

Boofy was purring and in his rightful place at 07:30, and Pointy's now asleep on my lap, so I think all is well again...

As usual, Boofy slept last night pushed up against G's middle.

Pointy slept between G's ankles :-)))
