Eco-politics update
Hansard gives the date of Fri 12 May.
The Bill's sponsor, Mark Lazarowicz, has issued a statement, from which i quote: "Not only is the Bill supported by Parliament, it is also backed by all the major environmental and fuel poverty NGOs and all the relevant trade associations, acting through the Sustainable Energy Partnership. ... It will promote microgeneration ... , require annual reporting by the government, ... reduce emissions of CO2 and help alleviate cold homes and fuel poverty
Eric Forth's opinion seems to be well summarised by this quotation: "... we must get the balance right between the desire for good things such as microgeneration, sustainable energy and renewables on the one hand and people's quality of life on the other. It is one thing to attempt to look decades ahead and save the planet in the next century, but it is quite another to take care of the quality of people's everyday lives today, and that should concern us as much, if not more."
The Hansard transcript of the Fri 17 Mar debate (which lasted 5 hours) is available online.
