The days of technical wonder

We now have a feline-calibrated glucometer, insulin syringes calibrated in half-units, and all the other equipment needed to manage the Flooger's current diabetes presentation. The vet gave him 0.5 units of insulin at local 7pm, after reading 25 mmol/l blood glucose - we get to do our first 'unassisted' blood glucose reading tonight, and perhaps the first unassisted insulin injection tomorrow evening. We are mad cat people.

I continue to feel better day-on-day. I think I might have managed some gentle rolling, had I been free for aikido instead of in training at the vet this evening! But I'm going on a CAMRA Mild in May pub crawl tomorrow night - to watch, as hardly any mild is suitable for vegans - so no aikido for me this week. Maybe next Thursday. So I'm mad vegan people too. But I want to get back to being mad aikido people ...

Wong! seems OK, still waiting for his twice-daily Flooger-walloppings to resume.

My old cat survived 2 or 3 years with daily insulin injections - we didn't use a glucometer, perhaps he had a milder form of feline diabetes. It also didn't appear to distress him to have the injections.

It's apparently very rare to need to use a glucometer with cats - in this case, it's because the Flooger seems very sensitive to very small doses of insulin at the moment.

That's good to know about your poor old cat, thanks.
