On conflict...

Morihei Ueshiba, founder of the Japanese martial art of aikido ('the way of harmony of spirit'):

"Aikido is not a technique to fight with or defeat the enemy. It is the way to reconcile the world and make human beings one family. ... Aikido is non-resistance. As it is non-resistant, it is always victorious. ... A mind to serve for the peace of all human beings in the world is needed in aikido, and not the mind of one who wishes to be strong ..."

Strength through "weakness" is a damn fine way to face things.

Be wary. Non-resistence is not "weakness" although the philosophy might be misinterpreted that way. Non-resistence, in my experience, can still drop me on my head or tie me up in knots.

Always important to remember :-) From what I know about [livejournal.com profile] vgnwtch, the use of "" does indicate an understanding that this non-resistent "weakness" is not about being passive.

Ah. Must've had my aikido-l "interpret everything literally and post now" hat on. Hopefully, not taken the wrong way.
