Take Back Parliament
May. 7th, 2010 10:00 amA fair society is better for everyone.
A fair voting system needs to be part of that.
Purple was used by the women's suffrage movement in the UK.
A fair democracy is worth the fight.
If you're in the UK, can you make it to demonstrate tomorrow (Sat 8 May) for voting reform?

UK Election - Polling Day
May. 6th, 2010 10:01 amLast night, I dreamed of naturally patterned black, white, purple and green suffragette kittens.
For those of us eligible to vote in the UK today ... my feeling is that it's valuable to exercise and preserve the right to vote. This time, if there is a hung parliament, and negotiations, our broken electoral system may finally be improved.
Properly completed postal ballot envelopes can also be delivered to polling stations today.
I feel that not voting actually plays into the hands of the least honest politicians - it reduces the vote against them, and they feel entitled to utterly ignore non-voters.

I'm hoping this will be passed around to anyone UK-based who likes Internet access ...

Well done, the UK Lib Dems
Mar. 31st, 2010 11:59 amhttp://www.boingboing.net/2010/03/30/libdems-wont-support.html
"the UK Liberal Democrats have unequivocally withdrawn support for the Digital Rights Bill, a sweeping, 24,000+ word bill that the Labour government are trying to push through Parliament with only a few hours' debate."
"There's no time in the 'wash-up' for any significant modification. Possibly very minor stuff but otherwise it's a take it or leave it exercise on the entire bill."

Around 300 people attended a demonstration last night at parliament against the proposed Digital Economy Bill.
Organised by the Open Rights Group (ORG), speakers included MPs and attendees wore black tape on their mouths in a demonstration of censorship. The speakers were unanimous in their appreciation of those who showed up, and the demonstration occurred just hours before the announcement that the Digital Economy Bill's second reading will be on the 6th April ...

Daily ways to 'vote with your lifestyle'
Sep. 1st, 2005 08:19 amhttp://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/9/1/24329/18916
"Hurricane Katrina was a natural disaster, but the flood wasn't. ... The money to prepare for something like this years in advance went to Iraq, and the National Guard to clean up after it went to Iraq too. The flood is "man-made."
... Katrina is just what the hurricane is called for short. Its real name was "global [climate change]"
I do not like to feel powerless against this. I want to do whatever I can to make a difference. Red Cross donations after the fact are not enough because they do nothing for the next Katrina (aka Global [Climate Change])."

"The purpose of this site is to provide at least one small lifestyle change per day that liberals can make to support the liberal agenda."
