Plumber fitted thermostats - wonderful! Also reckons boiler reaching end-of-life. Must put aside UKP1000 for when it needs replacing...

Having platelet level taken today: can move over from standard blood donation to apheresis (platelet extraction by machine)? Double credits for each donation, and every two weeks if you want :-)

SK appetite fantastic - condition back in coat. Next injection today, toxic litter tray protocols must be observed. WK now developing minor dire rear - and hates Kaolin medicine. Ho, hum. Off to vet now...

You know, it's funny: we can't donate in the US anymore because we've lived longer than X months in a country with Mad Cow disease. My response is, where d'you think the Brits get their blood donations, hmmm? Very annoying. I hope they come up with a way to screen for such problems.

Same applies to Canadians. Moreover, D visited Toronto during the tail-end of the SARS scare - if I'd been with him, I would have had to not give blood for some number of months. So ... Canadians visiting the UK couldn't give blood in Canada, and Brits visiting Canada couldn't give blood in the UK ... something definitely doesn't make sense somewhere :-)

Anyhow, I've given my sample, and I should hear in about 4 weeks whether I've passed or failed ... if I fail, I stick with whole blood donation. If I pass, I get to do an extra bit for human cancer patients, which feels like karmic balance for all the effort I'm putting in for SK...
