Did you notice that I'd gone?
Oct. 27th, 2003 10:21 pmI'm feeling up-beat :-)
My heros! D's laptop kept me connected. despite my sharing a problem with stairs with the Darleks, until D had to take it back to The Big Smoke. G spent most of yesterday afternoon resurrecting our old 3.1.1 laptop with a slim 95 install and another WiFi network card, and left it at the end of my bed as I slept, like an early Christmas present. Woo-hoo!
I'm not in plaster - the fracture doc had to admit "I have no scientific evidence to prove that patients in plaster heal better ... just don't bend your leg!". So I have a limited range of movement (5 deg) to keep my muscles and blood supply in relatively good order, permission to put my weight on my right leg again, and just three weeks of crepe-and-wool bandages supporting my healing knee. I still have crutches, to help me protect the leg. I already went for a short walk - in the sun! - with G, yesterday. I hope to be able to keep working up my exercise levels now, so that I can make it into the town centre - normally, a 10 min walk - before G has to go back to work on Mon 3 Nov.
Regarding aikido, I hope to be able to get G to walk with me to class tomorrow night, so that I can at least sit through the 1 hour basic class. I want to discuss physiotherapy with them - at least two of the most experienced people have had serious knee problems, and they may know a good therapist in the area. I will compare their advice with what the NHS therapist says.
Kitties doing well - I had both SK and WK purring on my bed for much of the night :-) SK continues well (eating, gaining weight, completely non-dire rear :-) and will have the full chemo slug (injection plus tablet) again on Friday. This means that SK may be acting drunk on Saturday... and then there's a two week break whilst we assess our progress and decide on 'what next'.
Getting lots of research done during my convalescence. Studying The Victorian Kitchen Garden (thank you again,
brisingament!!), permaculture, nutrition and aikido - of course, these are all subjects best done practically, but I may only have to be patient for three weeks :-)
Looks like my good friend, my mother, may be able to come and spent time with me in 2 weeks time - which means, we hope, that she can come to Novacon :-) D will be away on business on Novacon Saturday, so both D and G are looking forward to having someone around to mother me professionally :-) She's also an expert kitty wrangler, of course, but SK will be in 'chemo holiday', so she's safe in that respect. She and I want to do family history research, which my leg won't much inhibit. I expect we will watch DVDs too ... Mum's working through our Buffy and Angel collections, and we've just got B5 too :-)
Take care, y'all!
