I'm currently a LJ free user. I understand from a journal entry by [livejournal.com profile] webbob and other discussions, that free user bandwidth is currently limited, basically because of resource shortages. At the moment, the contribution which I make to LJ is only in the form of my journal entries and comments, rather than any technical expertise or financial input (I have the excuse of being currently unwaged). On the one hand, [livejournal.com profile] webbob is of the opinion that free users who don't make journal entries are making no real contribution to the LJ project, and I think I have some sympathy with that opinion. On the other hand, I have been offered a paid LJ membership as a gift. Before I decided whether to accept that, I'd be very interested to hear what paid members, particularly recently new paid members, think of the extra service which they receive compared to us freebies (even though, you could argue, that isn't really the point! :-)?

I see this issue has already been decided, but I think being a paid user is definitely worthwhile. It's cheap, as these things go, and the access to the fast servers has "served" me well several times. If you actually use the thing (and you seem to do so), then it's worth the pocket change.

I'm trying to be very careful with my pocket change whilst I'm unwaged, not least because I'm an inveterate donater to good causes. But my heart tell me you're right :-)
