I appear to be disenfranchised ... the Elections Office and the Royal Mail confirm that my postal ballot paper should have been delivered by Saturday. Apparently, the papers were sent out so late because there was paranoia about double-checking everything after the legal cases over the local elections last year. All that may be left to me is to try to officially report my ballot paper missing, so that if someone else uses it, it won't be counted.

In brighter news, Mater and I have just been over for afternoon tea with our neighbour F, this being the first time Mater has felt up to accepting the standing invitation :-) F is doing some excellent local community 'moving and shaking' ... could be exciting times ahead!

And the sun is just coming out :-)

You should (a) make a formal complaint about this to the elections office (b) make a formal complaint to I guess the overall electoral commission and (c) contact the local offices of the party you want to vote for, explain the situation, and see what they can do to help.

Hey - and wny not contact the local BBC station as well?

For this to be happening somewhere where they has already been problems with postal ballots is adding insult to injury.

Disgusted of Bethnal Green...

I've already done and acted upon (c), and will definitely (a) and (b) also. I could (d) too...

They helped me to by-pass the permanently engaged direct Helpline phone number for the local Elections Office, said I'm the first person to have reported to them that my paper is missing, and gave me the phone number of the Election Commission (which the Helpline didn't have available!).

The fact that they're permanently engaged may indicate that there are a lot of people with problems, and that most haven't thought to contact a party yet.

This is bad!

Did they suggest anything else that you might do to be able to get your vote back?

It would be interesting to see which parties the people who's papers "go missing" were intending to vote for...

...doesn't help you any though *hugs*

I'm afraid I insist on turning up at the box and physically putting the paperwork in there myself - I don't trust either the council or the PO to not screw up and I want to make damned sure my vote stands a chance of getting voted!!

I told the Labour candidate, and out-going MP (two different people) that I would not vote for them because of ID cards.

I trusted the postal system, and my trust was misplaced. I will not make this mistake again.
