It probably means that you're trying to (e.g.) put 32 characters of text into a field whose maximum allowed size in the database is 30 characters.

That's what I thought. I contacted the maintainer of the Web site in question, and they said 'we checked, it works for us, the problem is at your end'.

that is hardly a good enough answer. Their website software should be validating input BEFORE attempting to write it to the database. Seeing a database error like that just smacks of sloppy programming.

see above - they gave you a crap answer.

It may be down to the text you are using? there may be some pre-translation that means the input you gave that was parsed to fit gets expanded to something that no longer fits. Ampersands etc.

Quite. My involvement is to click on the name of a file which I need to download. That's it. So I'm with alexmc on this :-)
