Sad kitty news
May. 23rd, 2005 04:16 pmOur unknown stray has tested FeLV+ (positive for feline leukemia virus) :-(((( It can only be transfered in feline bodily fluids, so the Flooger is safe, but this is why un-neutered males should never be allowed to roam - they fight, bite and mate, and around it goes.
Unless someone can take Unknown as a solo house-cat, even Cats Protection would put him to sleep. The vet is going to try and find someone who can adopt him, but it looks bad...
Edit It's occured to me that FeLV is therefore likely to be endemic in the local stray cat population, which means that Georgie-Porgie puss whom we've been feeding is likely to be FeLV+ too. We were planning to get him in for neutering and an MOT soon :-(

Date: 2005-05-23 10:37 pm (UTC)But (as I recently told another friend in a similar situation) whether he finds a home or not, you did a good thing. He is off the streets (therefore not spreading the disease or hunting local wildlife), well-fed, comfortable and cared for. Even if it is only for a short time, that is a good thing, and you have done your very best for him.
But still, it is a very sad situation, and I am sorry that it is causing you pain.
