Aspiration is all very well, but you need to start from a knowledge of your own self-worth. I haven't known you for very long, but I already know that you're worth a hell of a lot.

I remember ending up on beta-blockers for stress because my boss wanted me to become something I 'ought' to be, and I thought he might be right but couldn't do it. Little did I realise he was suffering from clinical depression...

Well, you do 'speak in sentences'; so long as you aren't suddenly made out of jam or blowing into a weasel you should survive an attack of the dreaded Izzards. I think you ought to be proud of yourself because I think you do a great job (or several really) in spite of great difficulties but I get that it is hard to believe those sorts of compliments. True though.

I wonder if Urdu works as well as Latin when you meet the queue of murderers at the late night petrol station.

'Ought' is a demon, and one we all have to fight. It is shaped frequently by other people's expectations of us, and our own desire to please those people. In the end, you are the only person you have to live with for the rest of your life, so you are the one you should be happy with.
