Good things

My new folding bike, Wol (it's a Birdy...) rocks!

Better still, I started volunteering with Oxfam Cymru yesterday. It immediately became obvious that almost the only the way to get a job with Oxfam is to volunteer with them first. I read this thusly: They get so many applications from so many stellar people, that only by "putting your money where your mouth is" and getting stuck in to their work unpaid can you prove yourself to be sufficiently committed.

I will also carry on doing a bit of work for Friends of the Earth Cymru, as all of this seems to be the best way to keep myself sane whilst house and job hunting.

Onwards and upwards!

Pretty! How much does it weigh? How does it keep from unfolding? Enquiring minds want to know.

I'm not too surprised about Oxfam. I've heard a lot of places use their volunteer pool for screening. Is there an Oxfam where you're thinking of moving to?

It's not hyper-light ... I've not weight it, actually, but I think it's about 11 kg? There are four ingenious clippy things (plus your weight when you're riding) which keep it appropriately (un)folded.

There's head office in Oxford which is 1 hour by regular train from the West Midlands, and also a small Birmingham office, yes :-)

Wow... do I understand from the website that it is backpackable? And red or grey?

That's a brave step, job-wise.

Not quite - there is a large hold-all/shoulder bag in which to carry it, and when you take the bike out to ride it, the bag folds magically to become a backpack :-) But the folded bike itself is only the size of a small suitcase.

It's red. I call mine, Wol (http://www.rosiets.co.uk/wp17.htm).

It would be more brave if I hadn't already been job-hunting for a year, and didn't have two sugar daddies who are very patient, understanding and supportive (and in fact, my mother likewise).
