Power to the People
Jun. 9th, 2003 01:41 amFrom the UK Guardian newspaper: Supermarkets tell Blair: we won't stock GM
"David Southwell, of the British Retail Consortium, confirmed it had made its position clear to the UK Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the UK Food Standards Agency.
`The customer is where the real power lies,' he said. 'Supermarkets are not going to give shelf space to something that doesn't sell.'"
(This is a good illustration of why I am so keen to use my spending power in every possible purchase, to reflect my opinions! For the record, the science behind GM is laughably inadequate in my opinion, and the potential commercial leverage which GM could give e.g. Monsanto is unacceptable.)
