Bad news from [livejournal.com profile] redbird tops the list for today.

Good news, my second interview is scheduled for Wed 5 Nov.

Bad news, I got thrown across the bus and have badly dislocated my right patella. No cycling, aikido, gardening, trips out, standing up or putting weight on it for up to 6 weeks. I find out tomorrow whether I have to have it put in plaster or not.

Ironically, I was on my way back from the other hospital, where the Ears, Nose and Throat consultant had said: Oh, we thought that your old hospital was doing the tests! Well, this will just be an adminstrative appointment today, then. Another eight to ten weeks wait for your tests..." when I got broken. Alanis Morrisette, this is ironic.

Good news: Both D and G are here to minister unto me, and the kitties, including Toxic Tiddles after the next chemo treatment tomorrow. Wah.

That's terrible! I hope that the six weeks is an outside estimate and that you're back on your feet sooner than that. (hugs)

The doc wants to put me in plaster for six weeks, so then I'd have to recover from the loss of muscle tone and stiffness after that! I am going to the clinic on Monday for a second opinion!

Aw, suck. :( Good wishes for a swift, safe and complete recovery.

No, I think you have worse medical news than I do--not that I'm having fun here, but I'm allowed to walk, at least.

Shall we play 'Your condition is worse than mine' all day? :-) I've had this problem before, which helps me to be composed about it. Also, I don't think anyone ever died of a dislocated patella - not that I'm wanting to sound melodramatic here or anything :-) Anyhow, be well!

Well, I thought it might be a nice change from "my problem is worse than yours."

I don't think my life is in any danger here.

Oh, rotten luck! What horrible timing, too. Please let me know if you need entertaining, or need anything. I'm always happy to argue about Buffy. :D

Take care!

Oo! That sounds fun! Although, D will want his IR-linked laptop back soon :-) I have pretty much everything else that I need, thanks to my two wonderful nurses :-)

So, how much of Buffy have you seen? I've seen it all...

From: [identity profile] purplecthulhu.livejournal.com
That's WiFi linked not IR, by the way, in case someone thinks we have a new networking technology here!

G has taken his WiFi laptop to work, and I need mine to work from home, so [livejournal.com profile] purpletigron is a bit stuck :-(

And she refuses to consider getting a nice cheap iBook or something for her. Silly girl!

I plead codeine confusion for the technology thinko :-)

I do not like not having comments emailed to me. Dammit.

Yes, I've seen all of Buffy!

I also heard a rumor (or was it...?) that SMG is interested in guest-starring on the new season of Angel. I'm just baffled by that. I've only seen Season 1 Angel, and a few episodes of other seasons.

From: [identity profile] purpletigron.livejournal.com
I get the feeling that lots of people from Buffy are interested in doing at least cameos in Angel. SMG isn't the one I'm most interested in :-)

I should be stronger than in the past, as I've been doing specific knee strengthening exercises for aikido since August. So... I'm hopeful!

Got thrown across the bus? Inside it? By some evil thug? Or by centrifugal force? Or in a horrible bus accident? Or by a catapult? Or...

In any case, get well soon and my sympathies! Hope the cats are near you, giving you Relaxing Rays, but not right on you, doing their Big Lump impressions.

Oh - by a sharp stop, nothing more intentional. The bus was slowing down toward my stop, so I was standing up, moving toward the door. Apparently, a car pulled out of the supermarket car park right in our path, as the driver stamped on the anchors, and I lost it completely and flew about 2m to shmack into the front internal bulkhead. I have a respectable bruise on the outside of my right thigh, as that leg took the entire impact - I didn't hit anything with my upper body because of the shape of the bulkhead.

Unfortunately, G has had to take SK for the weekly injection today. Both kitties slept with me all night - perhaps because they were worried about me, perhaps because I had the radiator turned up right next to me :-) As it turns out, they are both about 4 kg and that is light enough for them to walk on my leg without causing any discomfort.

And D is working at home today, by prior arrangement, so is ministering to my needs :-)

I feel for your knees! I'm sure they'll be okay, but having had some knee trouble of my own I hope you'll be careful of them. That totally sucks.

Aikido is doing me lots of good in the knee care department, to counter the inevitable strain that it places :-) Of course, I was just about to start learning ... suwariwaza (sp?) ... no, not techniques from kneeling, just knee walking ... for the first time. Ah, well. Another delay to that...

I don't remember knowing that you have specific knee trouble. The doctor last night mentioned that some people have bone alignments which make the dislocation of the patella more likely. Since my cousin has the same problem, it might be that my mother's family has such a bone alignment...

Indeed. There was considerably more momentum involved this time, unfortunately. But at least I have some idea what I am dealing with, and what physiotherapy will be required. I am going to do some more research on the subject before my appointment on Monday - I don't want to go into plaster unless that is definitely the best course of action!

All the best to you in all your current travails, too!!

We were planning to come on the train, so G could have a few jars. That might still be possible, as I have crutches. If not, G might be prepared to drive us over... Anyhow, I hope so!!!

I always find it odd that airlines are so paranoid about having everyone sitting down and strapped in for landing, whereas on London buses doing manoeuvres considerably more violent than any landing I've ever been through, they're quite happy for you to be climbing a steep staircase with heavy shopping bags in both hands. Someone has got it wrong, and I suspect that the optimum position would be somewhere in between.

Indeed. I should contact the National Federation of Bus Users about 'Seatbelts in All Buses'.

Sorry to hear about the troubles! Not being able to get around can be really boring and uncomfortable. Poor you! Hopefully Aikido training will help rehabilitation be speedier.

I've had D and G running to fetch me books. I've now sent D to aikido, partly to find out if they have any physiotheraphy tips, and partly so that I can hijack the WiFi laptop again :-)

So sorry

So sorry to hear about your knee, sweetie. I'm thinking positive healing thoughts in your direction.

As for the hospital, well, that's the NHS for you...

Much appreciated! :-)

(As for the NHS, well - I'm reasonably happy with the care I've received given that it was free at the point of delivery. Doesn't mean that I don't wish it could be better... for everyone.)

Gack.

If we were making plans for me to come visit, now might be time to accelerate them! I've got another (albeit really heavy) wifi laptop you could be using.
