First week in school
Apr. 24th, 2004 07:18 amI've even had a weepy (on my own, at home, cuddling my Flooger) about how I didn't want to be a teacher, I wanted to be an astrophysicist ... and all the lost dreams and happiness of childhood, including loved ones departed... but a bit of something to eat and a sit down helped me calm down. My first week in school has gone reasonably well - I've got a huge file of notes that I need to sort through, and I've already done two stupid things: got a reputation for being keen, and walked backward into teaching two full lessons instead of one 20 minute segment... Oh, and tried to be friendly with the students when I should really have been being severe to build up their respect first. Ho, hum. But I'm learning hand-over-fist, mostly having a good time, meeting some very interesting people, and mostly looking forward to my second of my two weeks.
I've also been very rapidly scanning LJ, and riding the emotional roller-coaster with my friends who have lost or are losing loved ones, who have had narrow escapes from disaster, who are slogging through very difficult life-crises, who are looking forward to happy things, who are exploring exciting new vistas, who are plodding through normal life, who have been ill, and made recoveries... I'm thinking of you all!
Oh, and I've not been able to train the school canteen what vegan food is, so I'm having to eat vegetarian lunches. All that cheese is no doubt involved in my gaining 1 lb in weight this week - although there could be a little bit of cycling muscle in there too. (I've realise that, with my thyroid thing, I do need to watch my weight numbers, even though I'm quite happy with the way my body looks and feels at the moment - getting stronger and fitter, that is).
