Nov. 2nd, 2005 11:35 amI can't track down a copy of the menu for last night, so I will have to do my best from memory.
Starters selection plate:
Flour tortillas and corn chips with bean dip and chilli-onion salsa
Avocado and red pepper salad
Exotic fruit and red onion salad
Soup:
Spicy peanut
Carrot and coriander
Main:
Jerk tofu with Caribbean vegetables
Spinach and pine-nut pie
Tagilatelle with avocado and almond sauce
Roast baby aubergines with fried polenta
Hgme-made lemon sorbet
Dessert:
Chocolate cake with raspberry sauce
Fresh pineapple fritters with lemon drizzle
Everything was awesome, and it's just as well that my back was too sore for cycling before dinner, as my tummy was too round and full for cycling afterward :-)

Nov. 2nd, 2005 06:46 pmSmoking is already banned on most (all?) public transport in the UK. People regularly smoke e.g. on the top floor of double-decker buses. Now there is a proposal to ban the drinking of alcohol on public transport. The enforcement of this ban will be no more successful than the enforcement of the smoking ban. Moreover, there are already laws against being drunk and disorderly in public, which would cover most alcohol-related trouble on public transport already.
There need to be officials on each bus and train who are both trained and willing to enforce the laws, in the face of a small but real risk of being assaulted. The bus driver usually won't, and sensibly, can't.
