... as Mater was incapacitated by the side effects of her increased medication.

"Let's just hope that the effects are fully reversible.", said Kanga.

When Parental Units suffer scarey Life turns, it shakes the ground under our feet, the walls of our houses, and the very foundations of our Child-homes, regardless of how strong we may be as adult selves.

Many hugs and soothes to Mama-person and to your strong self!

Many thanks for your very wise and comforting words, oh beautiful owl. I'm looking upon the next 4 days as detox for Mater...

It's a bugger, because the slightly lower dose was really starting to help. I hope this won't sensitise her to the drug, and ruin all that progress :-( At the moment, she's in a state of collapse in bed, but the doctor says that all we can do for now is to keep an eye on her whilst her system clears out the excess medication. If she's still refusing to even drink more than a tiny sip of water by this evening, I will be a lot more worried :-(

Oh bother, indeed ...

One thing I know, from reading your journal, is that your mother is a strong and determined being. As are you. And that does make an awful lot of difference in dealing with 'complications' -- as I am sure it will in this case.

Many{{{hugs}}} and much sympathy and many, many Good Thoughts to you both.

Many, many thanks!

The problem is, Mater's strength has been seriously depleted by her enforced inactivity, as she always used physical work as a coping mechanism. Until we can get her sacro-iliac sufficiently fixed to be comfortable and reasonably useful, she's going to find it much harder to cope with all the other complications :-(

:::Good Vibes:::

All appendages are tightly crossed that this clears up swiftly and completely.

Thanks so much.

These things are always at their worst in the morning. Although she'd been decidely poorly yesterday morning, Mater was doing reasonably well by last evening - she decided to come out into the garden to help G and I install the new water-butt. So I think we can reasonably hope that she will be feeling a lot better by tomorrow evening. But so far today, she has taken nothing but a few sips of water - she certainly won't eat or take her (reduced) medication :-(

*Hugs* hope she's doing better soon... reading your other comments, its really important to get fluids into her as the water will help the meds flush out sooner (frequent allergies to things in our family have shown this is vital).

She's a lot more coherent now, and a bit calmer. I know the drinking is important, but she's refusing to drink. She says she can't swallow, because there's no space inside her for anything and if I try to persuade her to sip, she either pretends, spits it out or spills it. She's also refusing to take her citalopram (Prozac-like SSRI), and I know that sudden withdrawal symptoms can be severe. If she's still like this by evening, I'm going to call the doctor back.

Hmm, not good, hopefully it'll wear off as the day goes on -- do you have straws to make it easier to drink?

She's usually at her best around late afternoon, when she's not yet too tired, and her brain chemicals are fully in 'day' mode. She's spilling the water because she's refusing to drink - not exactly on purpose, but still. I wish a straw would help...

I'm also reading this with some alarm, and hoping Mater is improving.

Crazy(distractable, but also following your progress there)Soph
