Mater is alert and mostly cheerful, but still finding it very difficult to eat and drink. We saw the doctor, and he's understandably very worried about that. The consultant is going to visit tomorrow morning, and it might be necessary for Mater to go into hospital :-( Yet, for the first time in many weeks, she's animated in conversation again, teasing me about my sex life, spending time winding up her friends on her Web chat site, and enjoying flicking through picture books (Feng Shui for Cats, and The Unadulterated Cat).

It's so confusing :-(

'foncused'? ... took a while but I got it.

Sorry to hear Mater is not doing as well as you might like. Perhaps she is more animated and cheery because the necessity for decision and exertion has been lifted a bit. I know I felt that way when I had to go into hospital when I was pregnant - both times - and it was only when I was there that the all consuming desire to leave again hit me. Is D with you or are you all alone? I hope you have some support. Being a carer is hard enough when the care-ee is bouncing with health.

Glad to hear G found my opinion of Dundalk amusing. Hope he found the flight f**k up similarly rib tickly. Dundalk is a very unloved place: largely because it is a huge bottleneck people are itching to get through on their way to somewhere else rather than due to any actual faults of the place. The truly scary thing about Dundalk is that it is now in the commuter belt for Dublin - it's only an hour each way ... if the traffic isn't too bad.

The Flooger is the expert at foncusion :-)

She says she's no idea why she's feeling bright today. But she's dead set against the idea of going into hospital!

D's planning to come here on Thursday night after a meeting, and work here on Friday, and leave again on Saturday when Mater and I are supposed to be going on holiday... D & G are both very supportive, but more in a moral than practical sense during the week...

I was astounded to hear that G hadn't scolded the admin person in question, because there was 'no point'. Mellowing in old age, eh? :-)

Bristol is commuter belt for London...

Well at least she is feeling bright. Fingers crossed for a quiet night for you both.

Bristol is commuter belt for London... yeah but that's London - London's always been crazy. Dublin has a population of less than 2 million, lousy train links, no public transport worth a damn during rush hour and road connections that are only slowly coming up to par for a major city now we are paying the Turks to build them. That is the government is paying the Turkish company but the Turkish company don't seem to be paying the Turks who are doing the digging, or so it has emerged in the last few weeks. The whole transport and housing thing is so insane in Dublin that even Myles, big city addict himself, would rather stay here in pissant, no decent bookshop, only three cinemas Cork than move back there.
