Garden archaeology
Sep. 13th, 2009 05:51 pmI have reached the dateable layer in the archaeology of my garden. We know that a large outbuilding was demolished at some point. I have just come down to the demolition layer, over a foot down. I found dateable evidence- a cellophane Crunchie bar wrapper without a date, but with a price: 16p, special offer from normal price of 17p. According to the Financial Times, the price of a Mars Bar in 1981 was 15p, so I guess this means that 'our' outbuilding was demolished in the early 1980s.
I hope to be able to post photographs of the return of my garden from being a dead layer under concrete and rubble as the months progress this winter.
