[livejournal.com profile] brisingamen may get a slight feeling of deja vu whilst reading this entry...

Yesterday, I spent 2.5 hours delivering about 200 leaflets in the local Green Party target ward. As it's a good way away by public transport, I accepted a lift from another Green Party activist who lives in my constituency - we 'leap-frogged' around the target streets, with my partner delivering another 200 leaflets. 'Leap-frogging' is simply, working down the same side of the street, taking alternate houses, and therefore being able to chat as you over-take one another on the pavement :-)

Whilst chatting, we decide to form Our Suburb Greens. We decided that committees and meetings are boring, and since Big Smoke Greens already have all the formal structures required, we will be a socially-oriented group :-) We will organise any local campaigning over Fairtrade hot drinks in a local cafe since there are no decent pubs in the suburb (I know, a major oversight on my part for which G regularly chastises me). There are already three other Greens in our suburb, with whom we now need to make contact.

I've already been suggested as the Green Party representative on the so-called 'Community Council' - a body with no statutory existance which seems to be a self-appointed group of 'local organisation leaders'. But the Conservatives regularly send a representative.

When we got back to the target ward Candidate's house, we chatted over cold drinks. Apparently, the Big Smoke Greens had already heard of me, because my Green Party contact on the local climate change group had mention to them that he hoped I would formally join the party as I'd make a great local council candidate. Oh, and could I come to the count, so they could work out from which polling stations the Green Party vote is coming? (Remember, my bed-time is frequently 20:00!)

Today, Our Suburb Greens are going to put up lamp-post boards below every BNP board on the main drag through the suburb.

I'm feeling a little like a bowl of petunias beside [livejournal.com profile] brisingamen. Oh - my local partner in crime is a jaded ex-LibDem BTW.

I have a strong dislike of party politics.

I've just applied to join The Green Party of England and Wales.

I think that (party) politics are going to 'make-or-break' our response to the approaching, overwhelming environment-related crises.
