It's been great to have all these happy emails coming in all afternoon. I've already: confirmed with our removals company, arranged our electricity supply, requested our postal redirection (G & A, for two surnames, twice the cost, bah! but D already has an address in London).

I wish I could have a house cooling party this weekend ... actually, we'll be going to a German beer festival tomorrow afternoon, which will be nice in itself although without the same excellent company :-)

I've got a long list of `things to do' of course, but any handy hints of "I forgot this last time I moved and it's really easier if you don't forget it now" variety, gratefully received :-)

One hint: put the tea kettle and/or coffee maker, and supplies for them (tea, coffee, sugar if you use it) someplace you can get them right away. Simplest is probably to keep them out until the last minute and carry them over yourself. You probably will want tea (or coffee) when the move is about done.

Congrats on it all finally coming together! :)

Been a while since I moved, but one thing I do remember - have a bag with things like loo roll, towel, soap, tea or coffee, kettle, milk sugar, any vital essentials etc and keep that in the car with you so you have instant access to it. And make sure you've some cash to get takeaway with on the first night, rather than hunting for pots and pans and tins etc.

Yes! I'm seconding this very wise advice. That's the part we didn't do when we moved - all the cleaning stuff and all the bathroom stuff was elsewhere and extremely inconvenient.

If your sellers were less clean than you prefer, you're going to want to wipe cupboards and toilets before you put things away/use them.

So happy!

Thought you'd never ask!

Including
Time Line
What needs to be done when, before, during and after the move. Does not currently include the actual house buying (whew!)

Contact List and Useful Addresses to have with you
Who do you need to tell about your house move? How do you get in touch with them? Whose phone number should you have in your pocket if an emergency occurs during the move?

Moving Kit
You're in the middle of moving house, now if only you'd remembered to keep a kettle handy, you could have had a cup of tea ... if you'd also remembered the tea, milk, sugar, teaspoons and cups! A list of all those useful things to have handy during the moving phase.

Packing Hints and Tips
So you've decided to do your own packing... Are you really, really, really sure about this? If so, here are some hints and tips about packing.

And please feel free to email me with your own experiences so I can update the site!

Thanks ... will do. Got lots of experiences re. the actual house buying to relate...

I've had a quick skim through, and there's already several things which seem odd. Do many people still have TVs that need 24 hours to `cool down' before being safe to pack and move?
