Apparently, the Canadian Federal Government is likely to challenge the ruling on gay marriages made by the Ontario Court of Appeals recently. I'm told that (as well as by marrying a same-sex partner!) Canadian voters can show their support for same-sex marriage legislation by writing to:

1) Canadian Prime Minister The Right Hon. Jean Chretien, P.C., M.P. Prime Minister of Canada, House of Commons, Ottawa, ON, KIA OK2Ph: 613-992-4211 Fax: 613-941-6900 E-mail: pm@pm.gc.ca
2) Canadian Justice Minister The Hon. Martin Cauchon, P.C., M.P., Minister of Justice, House of Commons, Ottawa, ON, K1A 0A6 Ph: 613-992-4621 Fax: 613-990-7255 E-mail: Cauchon.M@parl.gc.ca
3) Human Rights Committee Chair The Hon. Andy Scott, P.C., M.P., Chair, Committee on Justice and Human Rights, Ottawa, ON, KIA OA6 Ph: 613-992-1067 Fax: 613-996-9955 E-mail: Scott.A@parl.gc.ca
4) Their local MP To reach your MP (and find out who your local MP is), you can phone Elections Canada toll-free at 1-800-463-6868 (or visit www.parl.gc.ca) or write to them at:
NAME, M.P., House of Commons, Ottawa, ON, KIA OA6

All of these postal addresses are free. Egale Canada have a sample letter (but you will make much more impact if you write your own letter), and samesexmarriage.ca have more information (including comments on Ralph Klein and Alberta, and legal advice that non-Canadian visitors to Ontario can apply to marry there.)

"and there was much rejoicing".

Which is as it should be - I must confess that I prefer it when lawmakers make law rather than judges ;-)
