New LJ style - infuriating?

I'm not using S2. But if I were...

How do I quickly find the link to the Web update page, once I have logged in? It is no longer on my profile page, nor is there a link that I can see on the Welcome page!

If you use a style with the links function enabled you can just add a link to the update page to your recent/friends pages - I used to code this in by hand under S1 anyway, but S2 makes it easier.

Hmm .. thanks. But it seems more than a little silly to have to manually add a link to what is, really, the primary function of LiveJournal: making journal entries!

True...but the way I use LJ (the page I look at most often is my Friends page, and that's where all my bookmarks point too), 'twas ever thus.

It should still be on your profile page. If you hover the mouse over the word "Journal" in the menu bar, another menu bar will appear beneath it including "Update". As before, clicking on "Update" takes you to the basic page and clicking on the row of dots after it takes you to the one with all the options.

What is this 'hover' of which you speak? I see nothing with my browser (Opera 6.04 under Windows NT 4 at the moment).

IANATechie, but I think you need a JavaScript-enabled browser for it to work.

Right at the top of the page, you should have the word "LiveJournal" with a pencil logo on a light blue background. Immediately below that should be a dark blue menu bar with the options Journal, Manage, Search, Help and About. Below that should be a light blue menu bar with no text in it yet. If you hold your pointer over the word Journal, the word "Update" should appear on the light blue bar beneath the word Journal.

Don't know about opera, but on Internet Exploder :-) the top of the screen has the blue pencil and LiVEJOURNAL(tm) in white. Immediately under the "Livejournal" is a dark blue bar with the words "Journal Manage Search Help About" in it.

In IE, if you move your mouse over the word "Journal" in that dark blue bar, you get a second line of words underneath saying "Update... Recent Archive Friends... Info... Memories" and if you now (carefully!) move your mouse down to "Update" it will highlight in black on white and you can then click to select it.

It may require JavaScript or something else to be enabled for it to work properly.

Personally I find it incredibly annoying and requires a precision of mousing that may well be beyond the average internet user, and is a user interface that is both modal and hidden, thereby heading towards the "mystery meat" category of badly designed websites.

I've resorted to not updating my journal navigating to http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml and bookmarking it.
