A: "This is intentional. This has been a subject of intense debate within NO2ID before we reached our present position.

We're really glad to hear of anyone who opposes the scheme. But the campaign can't grow unless it picks up people who want to be further involved, even if only in a passive way. Those who want to sign the petition but no more merely become an administrative problem to segregate from the others. And past experience suggests they are in a minority, so don't affect the headline number much. We assume the Government will take no notice of a petition. They have taken no notice of rational criticism

Sorry to be so hard-nosed about it. We're trying to fight a government machine here with volunteer time and very little money, so we have to do what's likely to be productive.

I've definitely signed (because their website wouldn't let me sign-up again) but I am not on their mailing list.

I don't know when they added the mailing list clause.

The side-effect, which they seem not to have considered, is that there is no immediately-obvious way for early signers to get on to the mailing list at all.

I think this is a relatively new addition. I joined their mailing list before they started the petition.
