Moral chocolate?
May. 29th, 2002 07:21 pmI don't know how many of you know, but there is a big bruh-ha-ha going on at the moment about poor conditions in cocoa (and, hence, chocolate) production. There appears to be evidence of child slavery, appalling working conditions, poverty-level wages, wanton environmental degradation, the whole nine yards. A bunch of Web site have discussions about this: and loads more that any search engine should quickly find you.
Well, if you think that so-called `fair trade' is one way to address the real problems in the world cocoa industry, then there's another Web page that might interest you. M&M's are taking votes until this Friday 31 May on a new color, and Global Exchange are organizing a `write-in bid' for the new color to be `Fair Trade Certified'.
