FWIW: Google-watch and Scroogle have an agenda of their own (doesn't everyone?). See www.Google-watch-watch.org.

I hadn't looked at GoogleWatch .. how bizarre. The commercial links which Google throws up have annoyed me for some time, hence the appeal of Scroogle. Dunno about Firefox any more...

I have no problems with the links on google pages - they're really very unobtrusive when compared to most other free resources on the web that use things like pop-up windows and the like... I will also not be moving away from Firefox anytime soon as I like the browser - and I guess I'm really doomed as I also liek gmail! Add to that the fact that I know several people who work at google and who I know are genuinely enthusiastic about the technical side of the work they do, and I guess it would take a lot to move me away - especially given that most of the opposition appears to be one bloke with a grudge ;-)

The ads on Google never bothered me because, unlike some other search engines, the sponsored links are isolated at the side. Overall, there's much less advertising there than on many other search engines and I have no qualms about infinitesimally increasing their ad revenue in return for the high quality of search results they offer.
