Keira captivates in Pride And Prejudice 2005

"This is, beyond any doubt, the romantic comedy-drama of 2005. ...

If there is any justice (which, of course, there isn't), Keira [Knightley] will win Best Actress at next year's Oscars. Equal to her, though in a less showy way, is Matthew MacFadyen. ...

In a British film of this magnitude, you would expect the older members of the cast to be outstanding, and they are.

Brenda Blethyn is the definitive Mrs Bennet, while the most audacious piece of casting is Donald Sutherland as Lizzie's reclusive father. Sutherland can be a terrible ham, but here he has everything under control, including an impeccable English accent.

As Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Judi Dench is magnificently malevolent. She has a Gorgon's stare reserved for her social inferiors that would turn even Princess Michael of Kent to stone at 20 paces. ..."

I am looking forward to this. Normally, I'm not a fan of Keira Knightley's acting, which seems usually to be along the lines of "pout, dear - use your huge lips!", though she was excellent in Bend It Like Beckham (pre-famous lips, I suppose).

Yeah. I've only seen Bend It and the deeply flawed King Arthur, so I've not been tainted by the rest of her films :-) I just have to decide whether it's worth seeing at the cinema (probably not), or buying on DVD (probably not) or borrowing from N when she buys it (yeah! :-)

Pirates of the Carribean is a ton of fun, but neither Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightly have the ability to carry it off - it's clearly Johnny Depp's film, ably aided and abetted by the character actors, not the "romantic leads". It's a shame - I do believe that Bloom and Knightly have have potential, but they need to be doing supporting roles until they grow into themselves.

Arguably the best thing about Pirates OTC (which has quite a lot of fun things in it) is Keira Knightly and Jack Davenport's audio commentary, which is cracking, and certainly converted me to the cause of KK, she appears to be much more likeable in person than on screen.

Oh 'Pirates of the Carribean' is good fun if distinctly un-deep. Of course if you hate Johnny Depp it is no damn good at all, though he seems to have learned to close his mouth finally, after all those years of acting with a dropped jaw, so that's my pet annoyance done away with.

I am soooo looking forward to seeing this. Keira Knightley comes closest of any of the actresses who have played her on screen so far to looking like my Lizzie. She certainly has fine eyes and I could believe that she could walk five miles in the mud to see her sister and arrive looking all glowy rather than half dead. She is also young enough for the sillier aspects of the part.

However, Lizzie could be being played by Paul Bettany (now there's a thought) and I would still shell out to see it just for Donald Sutherland and Judi Dench who are both cast in the roles they were born to play!
